As you probably know by now, Medicare is on track to begin the payment differential on outpatient physical therapy services delivered by a PTA. This change will go into effect on January 1, 2022, and will result in a 15% cut in reimbursement for these services. Although this only effects outpatient services now, we don’t know if there will be similar cuts in reimbursement for PTA services delivered in other types of facilities in the future.

Now’s the time to act to stop this change. APTA has been working alongside other health care professions associations to stop this cut from going into effect. If you would like to understand this issue better, you can watch a recording of a recent live event explaining the origins of the proposed 15% cut to services delivered by the PTA under Medicare, and what you can do to advocate for change. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTt8lSQsH0Q&t=50s

Lend your voice now. Use this link to go to a template to send a message directly to your legislator in Washington, DC. https://www.apta.org/advocacy/issues/pta-differential. The link is available to everyone, PTAs and PTs, APTA members and non-members, and patients. Please encourage all those you work with to help in this effort. The September 13 deadline is fast approaching, so don’t miss this opportunity to be heard!

APTA is also holding a virtual rally on September 1, with more opportunities to send your message to DC. You can find the information for this event here https://www.apta.org/news/2021/08/20/sept-1-virtual-rally?_zs=LU1PW1&_zl=AKHq7

Again, this event is open to everyone.

Thank you for your advocacy!
